Angling litter, and other types of litter, can be dangerous to pets and wild animals. Hooks and line can catch on dogs legs and badly hurt them. When the tide comes the hooks and line turn into ghost lines which can catch fish but there will be no-one there to release the fish. Many types of birds can be harmed too because of hooks and line. Angling litter can make people think that anglers don't care about nature, so it is VERY important to put your litter in a bin or bring it home with you so that people know that YOU care aboout nature.

Britain is an island so we have a lot of beaches and rocks and we need to look after them more.

Here is how you can help!

1/ Do not leave angling litter when you go fishing, especially sharp things like hooks or things that can tangle on animals like line.

2/ Always take spare bags with you to put your litter in.

3/ If you see somewhere that you think should have a litter bin but does not have one, get your mum or dad to phone the council and tell them. It is very nice to see a litter bin appear somewhere because you said there should be one.

4/ If you see other peoples angling litter, get your dad to bring it home with him or put it in the bin before animals, birds, people or fish are hurt by it.

5/ Do a project at school about it so that you make people aware of how rubbish on the beach can do harm. If you decide to do a project, send it to Kidzclub and we'll put it on the website with your name on it.

There are other types of litter as well as angling litter. These dolphins on the left were killed by nets that were thrown away by trawlers. This is why it is very important to keep our rubbish away from the sea.
This picture shows scientists looking at beach rubbish because they are worried about it and how it harms wildlife.
